Surgical Technique on screw removal in case of broken screw in SCFE Introduction Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis

چکیده
We describe a case where a traumatic unstable SCFE that was initially treated with closed reduction and fixation with a single transphyseal screw went on to hardware failure with recurrence of the deformity. The complication was successfully treated with closed reduction and recannulating the fractured screw within the epiphysis and extracting it using a conical extraction screw commonly referred to as an “easy out.” Three trans physeal screws were then placed for improved fixation strength. Follow-up at 9 months demonstrates a fused physis and no signs of avascular necrosis of the femoral head.

Torsional Strength of Single–versus Double–screw Fixation in a Model of Unstableslipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis
INTRODUCTION: Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is the most common hip disorder of adolescent children [1]. It results in fracture of the growth cartilage, separating the proximal femoral epiphysis from the metaphysis, due to hormonal and mechanical factors [2]. The most widely accepted treatment for stable SCFE (defined by the ability to bear weight on the affected limb) has been a sing...
متن کاملIn situ screw fixation of slipped capital femoral epiphysis with a novel approach: a double-cohort controlled study
Purpose In situ fixation for mild to moderate slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) remains an acceptable treatment methodology in most centers. Satisfactory fixation results have been reported with the procedure using either the fracture table or radiolucent table, both of which allow the hip to be imaged during the procedure. The position of the pin within the center of the femoral head is...
متن کاملProgressive slip after removal of screw fixation in slipped capital femoral epiphysis: two case reports
UNLABELLED INTRODUCTION In slipped capital femoral epiphysis the femoral neck displaces relative to the head due to weakening of the epiphysis. Early recognition and adequate surgical fixation is essential for a good functional outcome. The fixation should be secured until the closure of the epiphysis to prevent further slippage. A slipped capital femoral epiphysis should not be confused wit...
متن کاملShear Strength of Allograft Bone Screw Fixation in Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis
Introduction: Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is the most common hip disorder affecting adolescent children [1]. The etiology is thought to be multifactorial, related to both biological and biomechanical factors [2]. SCFE occurs when the epiphysis of the proximal femur slips in relation to the metaphysis through the growth plate, causing pain, disability and potential long-term sequell...
متن کاملArthroscopically assisted reduction of an unstable severe slipped capital femoral epiphysis: a case report.
Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is considered to be one of the most common disorders of the hip in children and adolescents. If left untreated, it may lead to progressive deformity, pain and decreased range of motion, and predisposes to early onset degenerative arthritis. Surgical treatment is advised, with in situ pinning across the physis being the gold standard for stable slips. Clo...
